I’ve played the same electric guitar since I was sixteen years old. A beautiful, custom-made blond Esquire with this big thick tiger maple neck and a fat chime-tastic tone…. I knew I needed a back-up guitar for on stage, in case I broke a string or something. But more importantly, it’s been five years with the same guitar, and I just got paid from the MTV “Raven Fly” thing so… oh my goodness the time is nigh.
I get my gear fixed at Gary Brawer’s, always have, always will. I brought my bass to another place once… ended up having to bring it to Brawers anyway. He’s a San Francisco staple, a local favorite among axe-wielders, and he’s located inside of… the raddest guitar shop you’ve ever seen, Real Guitars, 15 Lafayette St in SF. They’ve got tons of vintage, lots of custom-mades, and whole display of 1960’s Fender Jazz guitars that made my heart RACE, literally. The guitar I chose is the Fender Venus, a 1997 Japanese-made in Surf Green.
It’s a tripped out-looking Fender, and I’m head over heals for it. The thick neck, that big chimey tone, and it’s oh-so shiny and new. All I want to do is call in sick to work so I can stay home and play play play….
